Scrubbie-dub-dubbie

As we age, some things excite us more than they used to. Like the perfect dish scrubber. Once you find it, nothing else will ever be as good.

I picked up some Lion Brand Stitch, Soak, Scrub yarn at Hobby Lobby a few months back purely because it looked like a new yarn that I needed to try. This yarn is 100% nylon. Plastic. It might not be super easy on the hands while crocheting, but once made into a scrubbie, it makes light work of the dishes.

My biggest complaint about any “scrubby” yarn I’ve used up until now is that it doesn’t really add anything to getting the dishes clean. They might as well just be a dishcloth. This scrubbie yarn brings the goods. I cooked skillet taco rice for my family the other night. I can’t cook it without some rice getting burned to the bottom. After a quick soak and scrape, I put the skillet in the dishwasher. Surprise, surprise. It didn’t come clean. With a little bit of dish soap, hot water, and my new favorite scrubbie, I was easily able to clean the burned-on, dishwater-resitant rice from my stainless pan.

Once I discovered how great the scrubbie was, I went online and ordered the yarn in EVERY color. So far I have found this yarn on sale for about $2.75 a skein. I can make at least three scrubbies out of one skein. That’s less than $1/scrubbie!

I got some inspiration on my pattern from looking on the internet, but quickly worked it up on my own. If you’d like to make a double-thickness scrubbie, you can use this pattern.
