2024 Year in Review

Having a hobby turned business is a labor of love. It can be a lot of work for a little money. But let’s be real, if I were in it for the money I either wouldn’t do it or would do it much better.

The business part of my hobby is my way of justifying it. I love making blankets for people, but I also love designing something new that others may get joy from. I thought it would be fun this year to look back a little at the business side of things.

2024 Sales

This year, I had a total of 193 Etsy orders for a total revenue of $405.37. All of my online sales were from downloadable digital patterns that I have designed over the years. Links below are to their Etsy listings. (I have sold actual products to people in person or by commission. Those numbers are not included in this amount.)

I sold:

New Designs

  • Hexi Temp Blanket, FREE. I wasn’t going to do another temperature blanket this year, but with the success of the Split-Square Temperature Blanket, I thought I’d give it another try. The pattern in it’s most basic form is available for free. I have not completed my 2024 blanket yet.
  • Spring Is Coming Scarf Pattern, $1.99. This pattern grew out of a simple request from a grandmother for a pink scarf for her granddaughter.
  • Personalized Heart Baby Name Blanket (4-5 letter), $4.99. This is actually a great price for the 26-letter alphabet pattern that comes with it. I made if for a baby, but it is versatile.
  • Personalized Heart Baby Name Blanket (6-8 letters), $4.99. Making longer names required new spacing and a new alphabet, so I needed to make a completely new pattern.
  • Whatever is Lovely (Phil. 4:8) Blanket, $4.99. This is probably one of my favorite patterns of all time. The style of pattern was made a few years ago for my Homeschool Co-op Blanket Pattern, but this one is important because it is a verse that helps me in everyday life.

Finished Projects

I have finished a number of projects this year for bridal showers, baby showers, new babies, commissions, and fun. My favorite thing to make are baby blankets and I’ve made quite a few.

Some of the projects have made it on the blog. Some others have made an appearance on Instagram and Facebook (@thehazelnutskein). I’ll share some of those another day.

Coming in 2025

I hope to continue designing blankets in the coming year. I have a pattern ready to go, but have not yet had the time to make it. Here’s a hint: “Love is patient…” It will be perfect for wedding gifts (customizable too!).

My patterns so far have been very niche. I feel like they are a reflection of me, so that is something I will continue to do. No apologies.

I’d love to make goals for next year, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep them. So I’ll keep sharing with you the things I enjoy. I hope you enjoy them too.

Peace Out, Heidi
