It has been a busy spring for us with so many events and celebrations!
If I haven’t mentioned it, my husband and I have been involved with college ministry throughout our entire marriage in various forms. Some students we know in passing, some we know decently, and some we know quite well. The latter are often in our lives for, well, life.
In his new (ish) job as pastor of our church, premarital counseling is one of his duties. This year for the first time, he brought me along. May has back-to-back weddings. If you’re in a church you know that weddings come with showers. So, on April 27th as I took charge of a double bridal shower, I was also determined to have afghans for both brides.
It was a beautiful shower. The first blanket I’ve already blogged about here. It was called the Flower Shoppe Afghan and was perfect for the green-loving bride.
The second bride received the Autumn Blossoms Blanket, which was another kit from Herrschners. Once again, this was a detailed granny square-style blanket with loads of ends to weave in. But the pattern was easy to understand, and I was able to use a “conveyer-belt” method, which made the entire project go much faster.
As you can tell from my wall color, I very much love fall colors. The border of this blanket was supposed to have a few more rows, but I ended where I did because I was out of time. This was one situation where the blanket was finished the DAY BEFORE the shower. Then, I threw both blankets together in the washing machine and got them ready for gifting. (Do you wash blankets before you gift them? I’m a little OCD, so usually I do, especially now that we have a non-shed dog who sheds…)
The looks on the brides’ faces as they opened their blankets remind me why I love crocheting and gifting. These are the types of blankets that will someday become heirlooms.
The second wedding is this weekend, and then the following is a double baby shower for women in the church.
The little humans get celebrated too!
For the littlest ones, I am making two different blankets. The first baby is named already, so I designed a special blanket just for her. The second baby is a boy, but since I don’t know his name, I searched online for an equally special blanket. It is perfect.
Unfortunately, I can’t show you those blankets just yet because (1) they are not yet completed and (2) I want them to be a suprise for the mothers-to-be. I have a little over a week to finish two blankets. If you don’t hear from me, I’ll be binge-watching true crime as I give myself carpel tunnel crocheting. In fact, I better get back to it.
Peace out,
Heidi
