It’s a liger. It’s probably my favorite animal. It defends itself with its growing skills in the field of magic.
-Napoleon Dynamite
According to Napoleon Dynamite a liger is a mix between a lion and a tiger: a pretty special thing. The project I just completed is pretty special too.
In a Tizzy by Polly Plum is a brilliantly written pattern that tackles blanket construction in an innovative new way! You all know I’m not a fan of sewing together squares or strips after crocheting them, so it should come as no surprise that this was a pattern I absolutely had to try. This blanket is made one triangle at a time, joining as you go.
What does this have to do with a liger? I used Lion Brand Mandala Yarn in the Liger colorway. Mandala is a favorite yarn of mine and liger looked like a good yarn to use for a gender-neutral blanket. In the end, it leant itself more to a baby girl gift, but I still love the colors.
Polly Plum originally ran this pattern as a crochet-along last June. In addition to a written pattern, she has video instructions for each step. I don’t usually watch a video, but it was helpful to figure out the special construction and special stitches. Once you get the pattern down, it is not difficult at all. This is a pattern that I’m filing in the “definitely make again” section.
My finished blanket measures around 30″ x 30″ and used 3 skeins of Mandala yarn.
What do you think of this pattern? Is it something you would try?
