This pattern can be purchased on my ETSY site for $1.99 here.
“To Know God and Make Him Known.” That’s the slogan of the homeschool co-op that we’ve been a part of for the last nine years. I’ve been making a lot of patterns related to homeschool lately, but that is what has been on my mind.
One of the major reasons we chose to homeschool our kids was to show them Jesus in every subject, so this curriculum has met our needs in a major way. Every year when we near finishing co-op, I struggle with what to give my tutors to express my appreciation for all they do. If I struggle with this, surely others do too. Thus my Classical Conversations crochet patterns were born.
The wall hanging can be made much quicker than my co-op blanket patterns and uses much less yarn than they do. If you skip the fringe and hanging loops, you could easily change this into a pillow instead.
The pattern itself is a relatively simple graph and is made using only single crochet. A brief tutorial on changing yarn mid-row is included. Once you learn this skill, you will open up an entirely new world of crochet colorwork.
I pulled out a favorite yarn for this one. I used Stylecraft Special DK in Parchment and Royal. A skein of each will likely allow you to make two different banners as one only uses about half of each skein or less. I used blue because it is the color usually associated with our co-op, but you can substitute any color you wish. Just remember that any change in yarn weight will affect the size of the finished project. The finished size with fringe is about 10.5″ x 17″.
To finish my wall hanging, I ordered driftwood from Etsy. At the time, I didn’t realize that I was purchasing genuine Hawaiian driftwood, but that’s what it is. She has many different lengths and you can purchase them here. You may be asking yourself if I wanted a stick, why I didn’t I just go out in the yard and find one? I have a dog. I didn’t want to use a peed on stick. I took the easy route. (You should have seen my husband’s face when I told him I bought sticks!)
If you were making a small banner like this one, what would you put on it? Is there a phrase or Bible verse that defines you. Maybe I’ll make a pattern with that saying some day.
In the meantime, make sure to check out this pattern and the Foundations and Essentials Blanket patterns.
