I heard the statement lately (somewhere on the Internet, source unverified) that the expected pandemic baby boom had not happened.
That’s not what I see from my point of view.
In my small homeschool community group I have five pregnant mamas! Five! Well, currently four as the first of the babies has already arrived.
We all know what I do when people I love and care about are having babies–I make baby blankets!
I had started in on my five when my husband announced to me that a friend was having multiples. “What are you going to make for her?” (As long as he’s asking me to make blankets, he can’t yell at me for buying more yarn, right?)
With the first three completed, I thought it was time to share them with you.
Personlized Happy Baby Ripple Afghan
For the first blanket, I downloaded the pattern for the Happy Baby Ripple Afghan for free from Lion Brand and purchased a Herrschner’s 2-Ply Baby Color Coordinated Yarn Pack in the Lily Pond colorway. (The yarn packs from Herrschner’s are a great way to save money on yarn, and I was impressed with the softness of this yarn.)
The first change I needed to make for the pattern was figuring out how many rows of each color I needed to make since I was only using four colors and the original had 5. I think I settled on 18 rows of each.
Since this blanket was for a baby that we already knew the name for, I wanted to personalize this one. I purchased a Angels & Rainbows crochet alphabet pattern on Etsy from thehomeMAKErbyEmily for the steep price of $20. It was worth every penny! The letters are whimsical and fun and they absolutely made this blanket (and I can use the pattern many more times).
Bewildered Baby Blanket
The next blanket was a kit purchase from Herrschner’s as well: the Bewildered Baby Blanket. It used the same yarn as the first blanket, but from the second I saw this kit I knew it was perfect for a little girl.
The finished pattern is delicate and sweet–definitely sugar and spice and everything nice.
I hope that this one will become an heirloom for that little girl. It certainly rocketed up the charts as one of my personal favorites!
Personalized Baby Blocks
For the third blanket, I used one of my own patterns: Personalized Baby Blocks Blanket. This is a versatile pattern that I have used many times before. This time I chose a color palette of blues, grays, and browns in Stylecraft Special DK yarn, which is a yarn I absolutely love. They have tons of color options and the yarn is super soft.
Here are some other examples of this pattern that I have done in the past:
As for the rest of the blankets on my list to make, you’ll have to wait to see them as I complete and gift them.
What is your favorite baby blanket pattern?
