Today during my morning workout (doesn’t everyone start a workout right before Thanksgiving?), I could barely lift my arms. Was it because of the two previous days of workouts or was it because I tried a new crochet technique? Sadly, it could really go either way.
I had the idea to crochet some wreaths a while ago, but due to PCC (Previous Crochet Commitments) did not have time to work on it until yesterday.
Lest you think learning a new technique is easy, know that I had to look up some YouTube videos to find out how to actually get the yarn around the styrofoam tube. It was very helpful. I’m pretty sure some new muscles in my arm were being used.
I mashed up two patterns from the Crochet at Home book that I’ve had around for a while. There are so many good patterns in this book. I took the seasonal wreath pattern for the base and the snowflake bunting for the snowflake appliqués.
My intention was to starch the snowflakes, but in the end I opted for a simple wet blocking. If they begin to droop, I may reconsider that decision. Blocking was definitely a necessary step, though. Don’t skip it.
The yarn I used was Holiday Pastry Puff from Herrschners in Modern that I had left from another project and some fuzzy white baby yarn.
I couldn’t be more happy with the end result. I am absolutely in love with it. It is a project for me, and it brings me joy.
How are you decking your halls this holiday season?
