I started this pattern a few years ago. I took the method of joining from my Colorblock Blanket and added some snazzy touches. I’m not sure why I put it down, but it probably was because I ran out of yarn.
I unearthed it a while ago when I was cleaning my yarn room (sorry, guest room). This time of quarantine has become a time to get some old projects done. This project went to the top of my list.
Things I love about this blanket:
- The colors! I am absolutely in love with the colors. The blanket uses Bernat Softee Baby Yarn in Little Mouse Marl, Little Mouse, Mint, and Soft Peach. And only one skein of each–that makes for an inexpensive blanket.
- The method! I hate sewing together squares. This blanket is worked square by square in a join as you go method that means sewing blocks together is completely unnecessary.
- The texture of the green squares is wonderful. Perfect for a little one to explore with their tiny fingers.
- The heart is sweet.
- The size. At 30″ x 40″, it is one of the larger baby blankets that I make.
- It’s adaptable. Say you want to make this blanket for a little boy, simply only use the cross squares instead of the heart squares. Pick whatever colors you like. This blanket can have many variations.
The construction of the blanket leaves very neat, square edges, but I still prefer a border. In this case I did a simple single crochet border.
This pattern is available for purchase for $2.99 in an easy to print PDF.
