In the days of gift registries and gift cards, it is sometimes seen as rude to give something different. I, of course, don’t agree. And neither will the recipient of this blanket when they see how perfect it is for their child.
This is the Personalized Baby Blocks Blanket. The pattern includes 28 different block instructions–one for each letter in the alphabet, a heart square, and a plain square. I’ve also included a graph, so you can easily decide how you want to lay it out.
The result is a gift baby will cherish forever.
This blanket was made using Herrshners Pastry Puff yarn in the Peachy Keen Collection. There were three coordinating colors. I actually alternated them in a patchwork pattern, which is a little hard to see because I let the colors change on their own and didn’t manipulate them.
I’ve used this yarn, which is a combination of wool and acrylic, in the past, and it has a great weight and softness to it. You could use any DK, baby, or even worsted weight yarn for it with a small variation in size.
This blanket was made for one of my husband’s cousins. He has a lot of cousins. They have a lot of babies. This baby had the perfect name to fit on my blanket.
At 5 blocks by 6 blocks, there is a limit to the names that can be put on the blanket. Little Emma Jane was the perfect sample.
The hearts in the corners are optional. I need to come up with a star pattern that can be substituted for boys. When I do, it will be available for free on my blog.
This blanket uses a Connecting Double Crochet to join the blocks as you go. You all should know by know that I hate sewing squares together. I’ve even made a video tutorial on this special stitch to take out the guess work.
This is a pattern I can see making time and time again. I love the simplicity of it, the solid feel, and the endless color options.
The pattern can be purchased here as a downloadable PDF for $4.99.
