‘Tis the season. Thanksgiving is over and the holiday season is officially upon us.
We won’t be putting our tree up for another week or two, but when it’s time, I’ll be ready. You can be, too! I’ve created an easy, fast Christmas Tree Skirt pattern that you join as you go. It is easily adapted to any yarn you choose and available in 4 sizes.
I’ve done mine in three color stripes, but it could easily be done in a solid color as well.
I’ve designed it with an overlap, so that it can fit any size tree trunk and still not gap in the back.
Corner-to-Corner Christmas Tree Skirt
Yarn: I used Joy DK by Loops & Threads
2 skeins each-Snow, Ruby, Leaf
Add one skein each for XL size
Hook: I used an H-hook (5 mm). If using a bulkier yarn, simply use the hook size recommended for the yarn
Gauge: 6 rows will have a height of about 2.5 inches.
Finished sizes: Small, 23” diameter, finish 24 rows
Medium (shown in the pictures), 28” diameter, finish 30 rows
Large, 33” diameter, finish 36 rows
XL, 38” diameter, finish 42 rows
Abbreviations: dc-double crochet
Sl st-slip stitch
Ch-chain
St-stitch
Notes: This pattern does not include the color changes, but for my tree skirt, I simply changed colors every 6 rows. The pattern is worked first as one triangle, then each additional triangle is crocheted onto the previous triangle. When finished there will be five triangles. The fifth triangle will mostly overlap the first one in order to fit a variety of tree sizes.
We will be using the corner-to-corner (c2c) method using only increases, never decreases.
Row 1: Ch 6.
Dc in 4th ch from hook. Dc in next 2 ch.
Row 2: Ch 6, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook and each of the next 2 st.
Sl st to top of th ch 3 in row 1. Ch 3.
3 dc in ch 3 space of Row 1.
Row 3: Ch 6, turn. Dc in 4th ch from hook and each of the next 2 st. [Sl st to ch 3 in previous row. Ch 3. 3dc in ch 3 space.] across.
Rows 4-42: Repeat Row 3. Stop after the numbered row appropriate for the size you want to make.
Join-as-you-go for second-fifth triangle:
Row 1: Join yarn to top st of Row 1 on the 1st triangle.
Dc in the 4th ch and the next 2 ch.
Sl st between rows 1 and 2 of the 1st triangle.
Row 2: Ch 3.
Sl st between rows 2 and 3 of the 1st triangle.
Ch 3, turn.
3dc in the ch 3 sp made at the bottom of this row.
Sl st to the ch 3 space in Row 1.
Ch 3, 3 dc in ch 3 space of row 1.
Row 3: Ch 6, turn. Dc in 4th ch from hook and each of the next 2 ch. [Sl st to ch 3 in previous row. Ch 3, 3dc in ch 3 space in previous row] across.
Row 4: Ch 3, sl st between rows 3 and 4. Ch 3. Turn. 3dc in ch 3 space just made. [Sl st to ch. 3 in previous row. Ch 3, 3dc in ch 3 space in previous row] across.
Rows 5-42: Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you get the appropriate number of rows for your size.
Repeat the instructions for the second triangle three more times.
That’s all there is to it! Easy Peesy.
There are so many variations this skirt can take. Post your finished tree skirt on my Facebook page and tag it #c2cChristmasTreeSkirt.
This is very nice! I have a very small tree and am going to mAke a small.version of this.
Thanks!!
You’ll have to let me know how it turns out! I think it is a very versatile pattern.
