Crochet Along

Happy, bright, cheerful: Moogly CAL 2018

Happy, bright, cheerful–that’s how I would describe this year’s Moogly CAL. I know I’ve posted about it before, but I have all of my pictures from this year in one place, so I wanted to share them again.

Moogly is a website run by Tamara Kelly. She specializes in crochet. I’m not sure how I originally stumbled upon the site, but it was a while ago. I’ve been doing the Crochet Along since 2016. Basically, each year, she enlists 24 people to design squares for the CAL. Each pattern is for a 12 inch square. They don’t go together–some are floral, some are masculine. When you put it all together, it becomes an eclectic blanket that will become an heirloom.

Each square takes up to four hours to crochet. And there will be ends to weave in. Lots of ends.

This year I found a color palette on Pinterest and ordered that exact yarn. I’m sure the cheery colors called to me in the midst of winter. These colors remind me of a daffodil. It is a DK weight, and I’ve loved it. I ended up using an h-hook and each of my squares is about 9 1/2 inches.

Another new technique is tackled with block #14 here.

Which is your favorite square? It is hard to pick because there are so many factors: color placement, ease of instructions, difficulty. I’d have to say, that my favorites based solely on the finished project are Clown Car and Crocodile Dahlia.

I can’t wait to see what these all look like together. I haven’t decided what join I will use yet, but rest assured, I’m sure I’ll blog about it when I do.
