It’s here as promised! The Monogram Placemat Pattern! It is customize-able with any three letters from the English language. You can purchase the pattern for $3.99 here.
This was one of those times where I had a vision, and it actually worked out. I picked up 2 spools of cotton Peaches & Creme yarn from my local Walmart, printed off some graph paper and got started.
This pattern is made carrying one strand of yarn under the other so that color changes are made easy. This means the contrasting color shows through, but I think it gives it a whimsical look. The ombre yarn I used for the monogram gives this one a very beachy feel–perfect for summer.
My kids were so excited when they saw this project. They are anxious to have their own monogrammed placemat. However, it might be a while before they get them. I’ll need to work them in between other projects. In the meantime, we have one for good ole Dad, just in time for Father’s Day.
This project ended up not exactly straight because of the different tension on the carried yarn as you work the letters in the monogram. So, I used a wet blocking method and it straightened it right up. I, however, used a little too much water and discovered that my pins weren’t rust proof: FAIL! But only the trained eye would notice, so I guess it’s not too much of a problem.
The finished placemat measures 12″ by 16″ and is the perfect size for our dinner plates.
