I enjoyed my Happy Yarn Mail so much that I went searching for another crochet subscription service. I found Darn Good Yarn. It is cheaper at only $10/month plus shipping. This service has high quality yarn (you might say “darn good yarn”) and is unique in that it comes with knit and crochet instructions for the same project. There are no extras in this box. Just great yarn.
Now, I must confess that I usually stick with acrylic or cotton yarn that I can get from a local hobby store. I don’t have much experience with nice yarn that comes in skeins wrapped this way. As evidenced by this–
I didn’t want to ask my husband to hold the yarn for me, so I ended up with this mess. And it took me over 4 hours to unravel it all. Actually, I cheated and cut it after three hours. This morning I unraveled the rest to finish another project.
After finishing the laborious process of winding the yarn into a pretty ball, I was able to start on the project–hanging baskets for air plants. I still need to get the air plants, but the project was fun, the directions were mostly easy to follow, and I only used about 1/3 of the yarn.
What these subscription boxes have been doing is teaching me about new yarns and new techniques. They have been a ton of fun. I can’t wait to see what I get next month!
