I had some yarn left over from my Darn Good Yarn subscription box. So, I pulled out my handy dandy Crochet One Skein Wonders book and found something I thought would work. Enter the Around-the-Post hat by Deb Swinski. The book says that the “hat is modeled after a hat Deb’s mother crocheted over 30 years ago. The style is classic and suits both men and women.” I think this is true. Let’s see what you think.

Now, I have never used silk yarn for a hat before (or ever before really), so I wasn’t sure how it would work with this pattern, but I’m very happy with the end result. In the beginning, I didn’t know how it was going to turn out.
At the beginning of the pattern, you start with a lot of stitches and increase rapidly. This makes it very ruffly, and I thought there was no way I was doing it right. But with a few more rounds, it starts to even out.
By about round 7, it began to resemble a flatter circle. I kept thinking that it looked a little like a beret. But, in the end, it made a very cute hat. I ran out of yarn about two rows shy of where the pattern said I should end, but it still fit me.
This is another pattern that I would definitely make again. The biggest reason is that IT FIT! I have such a hard time getting things to fit right, but this one was very forgiving. I feel like if you need it a little smaller, you could roll up the brim.
In all, I think I ended up with a fine, silk hat!
